Context: Probably placed in an Ica Valley tomb as an offering, this vessel's shape suggests that it was made for holding and pouring liquids. Incised on the shoulder are two large supernatural figures who seem to be flying or floating. Each grips a trophy head with one hand, a blade with the other. The creature's back is serrated, streamers emerging from the head terminate in points or arrows, and the markings below the eyes also resemble knives. All these traits reinforce an association with sacrifice.
