Description: A broad woven raffia woman's belt with cowrie shell and glass bead decoration; the center of the belt an inserted section of three wrapped fiber bundles looped around each other to form a raised knot; center surface and bundles decorated with alternate rows of white and blue barrel-shaped beads; cowries sewn along center bundle; belt sides decorated with three rows of cowrie shells sewn at ends to overlap; borders of blue and white barrel beads; raffia fiber sewing.

Context: Belts are worn by Kuba men and women of the royal establishment in public performances. Most are decorated with beads and cowries with the central decoration being worn in the back. Women hang decorative pendants from the sides of the belt. Hats, foot and hand coverings, and costumes are also covered with beads and shells.
