Kokoschka's second sitter was Commerce Counselor Ebenstein, who was tailor to the Austro-Hungarian court. When Kokoschka saw this portrait during a visit to the Art Institute in 1958, he recalled how his critical lessons in anatomy were learned from Ebenstein.
