Context: Charlotte Savery Carteret-Hardy (1782-1850) and Sarah Carteret-Hardy (1780-1808) were the daughters of Lieutenant-Colonel Thomas Carteret-Hardy of the regiment known as the York Fuseliers.Charlotte became Mrs. Ralph Price in 1805, and Sarah married the topographer Daniel Lysons in 1801, the year this picture was painted. This work remained in the Hardy family until 1887.
