Context:

David was delivering some provisions and presents to his three older brothers who were fighting the Philistines under Saul. As he arrived he heard the giant Goliath challenge Saul to send one soldier to fight him and determine the outcome of the war. When none of the Israelites answered, David volunteered to fight Goliath. Refusing both weapons and armor, David went to a nearby stream and picked out five smooth pebbles to use with his slinghot. David defeated the powerful giant with one shot that struck Goliath in the middle of his forehead. When the Philistines saw their great champion killed and then beheaded by the yound David, they turned and ran.
