Context: Apparently taken in Africa between 1900 and 1920, possibly in a main city of Côte d'Ivoire, this exterior studio portrait features two handsomely dressed men and a woman, posed in front of a painted backdrop. The unidentified people wear a variety of textiles including strip-woven, block-printed, and trade cloths. The multiple textile types and styles point to the location of the studio in a city center such as Abidjan. The personal ornaments are also Ivoirian in style.
